We left off in part 1 with me musing on all cause crude mortality in England & Wales for the period 1982 w1 – 2026 w27. We discovered that week 16, being the deadly peak of the 2020 pandemic, was beaten into third place behind 1999 week 1, and 2000 week 1, with 1989 week 51 rather close behind. Something worth pondering on, perhaps.

I also couldn’t see a mortality signal reflecting claims of a climate crisis, climate catastrophe, climate collapse, climate breakdown or climate apocalypse. Interestingly enough, neither will you find any of these terms used in the IPCC AR6 working Group 1 Report, this being the climate status ‘Bible’ for all climatologists everywhere. Read that weighty and most sober technical tome and you’ll wonder what brand of tea politicians, activists and eco-journalists are all drinking.

But, hey, I promised a slide of the 5-year crude mortality baseline so we could see what was being subtracted from weekly figures to arrive at weekly excess all cause crude mortality…
